Zygota - Alex Gross

Zygota (2004)
mixed media on paper
(a collaboration with Jeff Soto)
size: 25 " x 18 "

'Zygota' is the Russian way of saying 'zygote.' A zygote is a cell that results from the union of two cells during fertilization. It is thus an appropriate name for a piece that was a collaborative effort between Alex Gross and Jeff Soto.

Alex Gross received a BFA with Honors from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, in 1990.  Since then, he has been a successful freelance illustrator and gallery artist.  Alex taught at his alma mater from 1994 until 2005, and he was the recipient of two faculty grants there.  Alex was also the recipient of the prestigious Artists Fellowship from the Japan Foundation in the year 2000.  Alex’s first monograph The Art of Alex Gross (with an introduction by the well-known science fiction writer Bruce Sterling) was recently published by Chronicle Books.
