Roxy's Tattoo (2006)
number 4/50 : limited edition painted gocco print on paper
11" x 8.5"
Meet Roxy. Roxy is not capable of keeping her hands still. They always need to be doing something. She decorates every inch of her homework, notes, and assigments with drawings! One day her teacher, Mr. Bo Ring, said "Roxy. This has got to stop. You must stop drawing all over your schoolwork! You must stop this at once I say!"
So, she moved her paper aside and drew all over her arms.
"Roxy's Tattoo is based on a true story and was inspired by my friend's daughter who will be an awesome artist when she grows up!"
--Rania Hassan
Rania Hassan lives in Washington, DC. Her favorite color is green. She is quite fond of pirates and spends a lot of time imagining what the world would be like if everything were upside down. Rania likes to experiment with different mediums in her work. Recently she has been a little obsessed with her print gocco machines, knitting, and painting, so she has been working on methods to combine the three.
Each of these limited edition painted prints in her 'One Page Tale' series started with a word, a watercolor and ink illustration, and a story. Inspirations include children's picture books, coloring books, stories, emotions, and the silly things parents tell their kids. Print gocco is a thermal screen printing system that originates in Japan. Unfortunately, these systems have been discontinued and only 3 years of supplies have been promised.
